11 Feb: ABC1 sharpens knives for comedy fight

ABC in Australia has commissioned Sydney-based prodco Jungleboys to make a new six-part comedy sketch series for flagship channel ABC1.

The Elegant Gentleman’s Guide to Knife Fighting (6×30’) is based on an online comedy programme of the same name and comes from the creators of A Moody Christmas, and Review with Myles Barlow.

Actors such as Brendan Cowell from The Borgias and Georgina Haig from Fringe will work with directors including Wayne Blair of The Sapphires fame to develop scripts submitted by first-time and experienced writers.

“The Elegant Gentleman’s Guide to Knife Fighting is a unique incubator for some of Australia’s best comedic talent,” said ABC TV head of entertainment Jennifer Collins. “This series goes to the heart of what ABC TV Entertainment should be doing – creating and nurturing the next wave of comedy writers, directors and performers.”

Created by Trent O’Donnell, Phil Lloyd and Jason Burrows, the series will be executive produced by Sophia Zachariou from ABC and Burrows. No air date has yet been set.
