ABC TV and Jungleboys started production today on a television version of The Elegant Gentleman’s Guide to Knife Fighting.

The 6 x 30min sketch series is based on the experimental online comedy program of the same name and comes from the award-winning creators of A Moody Christmas and Review with Myles Barlow.

It will be shot in Sydney and Melbourne and will feature an impressive lineup of established and upcoming comedic talent, both in front of and behind the camera.

The Elegant Gentlemans’ Guide to Knife Fighting stars an ensemble cast, including Patrick Brammall, fresh from his AACTA award-winning performance in A Moody Christmas, Brendan Cowell (The Borgias, The Slap), Phil Lloyd (Review with Myles Barlow, A Moody Christmas), Jane Harber (A Moody Christmas), Georgina Haig (Fringe), Craig Anderson (Next Stop Hollywood), Helen Dalimore (Laid), Janis McGavin (The Urban Monkey) and standup comedian Dave Eastgate.

A sensational line-up of award-winning directors will be working on the project, including: The Saphires and Redfern Now director, Wayne Blair, Trent O’Donnell (A Moody Christmas, Review with Myles Barlow), Christiaan and Connor Van Vuuren (Bondi Hipsters), Abe Forsythe (Mr & Mrs Murder, Laid), Craig Melville (John Safran’s Race Relations and John Safran Vs God), and Alethea Jones (Tropfest winner and Antomy).

In December last year, Jungleboys sent out a call for submissions for sketches and were inundated by over 2400 scripts. Jungleboys roster of accomplished directors are now working with the best of the material submitted, from both first-time and experienced writers, plus additional material written by the team.

ABC TV’s Head of Entertainment, Jennifer Collins says; “The Elegant Gentleman’s Guide to Knife Fighting is a unique incubator for some of Australia’s best comedic talent. This series goes to the heart of what ABC TV Entertainment should be doing – creating and nurturing the next wave of comedy writers, directors and performers. It’s a thrill to be working alongside the innovative creative team at Jungleboys.”

Jason Burrows, Executive Producer for Jungleboys says, “The show will provide a really exciting platform to showcase the work of some really original comic writers, great actors, and talented top class directors. It is a fantastic original and collaborative show that could only be made with ABC TV.”

Created by Trent O’Donnell, Phil Lloyd and Jason Burrows, the series will be Executive Produced by Sophia Zachariou (ABC TV) and Burrows (Jungleboys), and produced by Chloe Richard and Nicola Patterson.
